Court adjourns CPMT case to June 22

Shimla, June 19 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court today adjourned a writ petition, seeking re-examination of the Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT), to June 22 after a section of the students and their parents approached the court alleging irregularities in the examination.

The court, in its order, asked the counsel for the committee to substantiate its plea of irregularities in the entrance test with stark facts.

The Action Committee of the Aggrieved Students and Parents have approached the court, alleging that the state's CPMT entrance examination was leaked a day before the examination, which was held on April 26.

Quoting from newspaper reports, the committee alleged paper leak a day before the examination, which was conducted by the Himachal Pradesh University, resulting in 10 students from a single locality making it to the merit list.

The committee alleged that average candidates had secured top positions in the merit list, while meritorious students had either not found place in the merit or were very low in the list.

Urging the court for ordering the re-examination of the CPMT entrance test, the committee said the paper had already been leaked to a few selected students, who finally made it into the merit list.

Before posting the matter to Thursday, the division bench of the court, comprising Chief Justice V K Gupta and Mr Justice Surjit Singh, asked the committee to substantiate its plea with bare facts.

The committee approached the court after an enquiry committee appointed by the Himachal Pradesh University Vice Chancellor gave a clean chit to the university and said allegations of paper leak were an attempt to tarnish the image of the institution.
