Chennai Airport to become Transit Hub : Praful

Chennai, June 19 (UNI) The Union Civil Aviation Ministry would develop Chennai Airport as a transit hub at an estimated cost of about Rs 3000 crore, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said tonight.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Chennai airport has to be developed as a world class facility as the traffic was growing day by day.

Referring to the controversy over land acquisition for the Chennai airport expansion, he said the Ministry would discuss the matter with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and leaders of other political parties in the state to arrive at an amicable solution.

He appealed to the people living in and around Chennai airport, not to be concerned over the expansion project and said the Ministry would not take any hasty decision without consulting the state government.
