271 nominations found in order

Pondicherry, Jun 19 (UNI) As many as 271 nomination papers for the post of commune panchayat councillors of Bahour, Mannadipet, Nettapakkam and Ariyankuppam were found in order after scrutiny of nominations, District Collector and District Election Officer Theva Neethi Das said in a release here today.

A total of 255 nominations for the post of village panchayat presidents and 1,457 nominations for the post of village panchayat ward members were also found in order, the release added.

Elections to Bahour, Mannadipet, Nettapakkam and Ariyankuppam commune panchayats would be held on July one in the final phase.

The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is June 21.

Seven persons for the post of Municipal Chairman of Mahe and Yanam and 68 for the post of councillors of the two municipalities were in fray for the first phase of elections on June 24.

While ten persons were contesting for the post of Pondicherry and Ozhukarai Municipal Chairman, a total of 423 were in the fray for the post of muncipal councillors in the two municipalities.

About 99 candidates were contesting the post of commune panchayat councillors.

While 80 were in fray for the posts of village panchayat president ,535 were contesting for the village panchayat ward members. Pondicherry and Ozhukarai Municipalities along with Villianur commune panchayats will go to polls on June 27 in the second phase.
