UP governor approves Jauhar University bill
Lucknow, Jun 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar has approved the Maulana Mohammed Ali Jauhar Muslim Universty Bill, 2005, which had become a major point of contention between the Mulayam Singh Yadav government and the Raj Bhawan.
However, the Governor has laid down conditions that have to be fulfilled before the varsity comes up at Rampur.
State Urban Development Minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Mohd Azam Khan has reportedly assured the Raj Bhawan to fulfill the conditions.
The Chief Minister and Mr Khan had recently met the Governor to put across their stand. They also had made certain clarifications on the issue.
The Bill had created a stand-off between the government and the Governor, with the ruling SP accusing the Raj Bhawan of ''politicising the issue.''.
Mr Khan had blamed the Raj Bhawan for ''unnecessarily'' delaying the Bill. The apparent stand -off was in the face of the appointment of Mr Khan as the varsity's lifetime pro Vice-Chancellor.
A fortnight back, the Governor had sought certain queries about the Chhattisgarh Private University Bill.
The Supreme Court had set some guidelines for the establishment of a private varsity. The Governor wanted to know if the guidelines were followed in the Jauhar University Bill.
