Swadhyaya Parivar NRI cremated, no arrests so far

Ahmedabad, June 18 (UNI) US-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) businessman Pankaj Trivedi (52), who was brutally beaten to death by four unidentified persons here on Thursday evening, was cremated today in the presence of his family members.

Although the four assailants attacked Mr Trivedi with a baseball bat and sticks outside Ellisbridge Gymkhana in posh Ellisbridge area, no arrests have been made so far.

Police claim to have recovered some documents from Mr Trivedi's car relating to dispute between two factions of the Swadhyaya Parivar, to which he belonged. The parivar has branches in several countries around the world.

According a section of the 'parivar', Mr Trivedi had sought details of donations received for the victims of the earthquake that killed over 13,000 people on January 26, 2001, suspecting financial irregularities in the funds. Police is investigating that angle too.

However, Swadhyaya Parivar officials deny the charge.

Incidentally, Mr Trivedi, who had migrated to Cincinnati, USA nine years ago, was arrested by Rajkot police during his visit to India during Diwali festival last year after a scuffle between two groups of the 'parivar'.
