Six sentenced to RI in spurious medicine case

Fatehabad, June 18 (UNI) Hisar Chief Judicial Magistrate Alka Malik has sentenced a proprietor of a Delhi-based pharmaceutical company, four directors of another firm and two partners of a Hisar based wholesale drug firm to rigorous imprisonment in two cases of spurious medicine under Drugs and Cosmetic Act.

District Drugs Inspector, Hisar has taken samples of Chloramphenicol capsules from a Hisar based wholesale medicine firm, Azad Medical Agencies on July 19, 1991. The capsules were manufactured by Medirose Pharmaceuticals, Delhi and marketed by Rikar Organanics, Delhi.

On analysis by the government laboratory, the capsules were found to contain zero content of the drug. Another sample of the Cotrimoxazole Double Strength tablets of the same company was also taken from the same firm a few days later and it also showed zero content of the reported drug.

The authorities filed two separate criminal complaints in the two cases against the accused, including proprietor of Medirose Pharmaceuticals, Ved Parkash, four directors of Rikar Organics, Delhi, Ashwani Tuli, Sham Sunder Singla, Gursewak Singh and Rajesh Sarin and two partners of Azad Medical Agencies, Hisar, Harvinder and Munish.

Ashwani Tuli and Sham Sunder Singla were declared proclaimed offenders during the trial but Tuli was later arrested. The case was decided yesterday after nearly 15 years of trial.
