Prime Minister must interfere into AIIMS affairs-Sushama Swaraj

Bhubaneswar, Jun 18 (UNI) BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today alleged that Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has been trying to destroy the sanctity of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to interfere into the matter.

Ms Swaraj told newsmen here that it was most shocking and unfortunate that the AIIMS, set up under an Act passed in the Parliament, is being destroyed for 'political adventurism'.

Reacting on the statement made by the Union Health Minister against AIIMS Director P Venugopal that he(Mr Venugopal) was free to resign, the BJP leader said such type of remarks were never used in a democracy.

The Union Health Minister, she said, was behaving like a 'malik' (master) and treating the Doctors as his 'naukar'(Servant). Being a doctor Mr Ramdoss should respect the profession and the dedication and commitment of the doctors, Ms Swaraj remarked.

She said instead of the Union Health Minister heading the AIIMS it should be now headed by the Prime Minister.

Stating that stand off between the Union Health Minister and the Director of the AIIMS was not a healthy affairs for the Institute as well as the country, the BJP leader urged the Prime Minister to intervene into the matter and resolve the crisis.
