Over a lakh file nominations for local body elections

Hyderabad, June 18 (UNI) More than one lakh people have entered the fray to the two-phase local body polls in Andhra Pradesh as the filing of nominations ended last evening.

According to the State Election Commission here today 1,15,557 candidates are in the field for the 17,235 ZPTC and MPTC seats. For the 1097 ZPTC seats ten candidates are in the fray in each constituency. The panchayat elections in the state will be held on June 28 and July 2.

As a clear understanding has not been arrived at on seat sharing between different parties, candidates of all parties had filed their nominations.

Of the 16,188 MPTC seats, election was unanimous in 120 seats and 1,04906 candidates are in the field for the remaining seats.

Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar and Warangal stood first in number of nominations with over 8000 papers filed in each district. As there was heavy rush for filing nominations, chits were given to the candidates who came in time and their nominations were received till late night in several districts. Election officials received the nominations till midnight in several places.
