Mercury stays below normal in North West

Chandigarh, June 18 (UNI) People in north-west India enjoyed pleasant weather for the second consecutive day today as the mercury stayed five degrees below normal upto five degrees celsius in most parts of the region.

Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded temperature below normal.

Amritsar recorded 37.8 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 37.2 and Patiala 37.0 with two, four and three degrees below normal respectively.

In Haryana also, the mercury stayed below normal at most of the places. Hisar, which usually turns out to be the hottest place in the state, stayed two degrees below normal and registered a maximum temperature 38.5 degrees Celsius, Ambala witnessed 37.6 degrees, two degrees below normal. The temperature at Karnal was surprisingly five degrees below normal with maximum temperature at 35.5 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in the national capital, Delhi stayed two degrees below normal at 37.6 degrees Celsius.

The mercury hovered below normal at Chandigarh and its adjoining areas in Punjab and Haryana. The city recorded 38.0 degrees celsius, one degrees below normal.

Shimla recorded 25.1 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal.

Bhuntar in Kullu disrict recording 32.0 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, while Sundernagar in Mandi district registered 33.7 degrees and Kalpa in Kinnaur district showed 20.0 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday's rainfall over Punjab and Haryana and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh has helped the temperature to stay below normal in the region.

The Met office here has predicted rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
