Malaysia introduces multiple entry tourist visas for Indians

Kochi, June 18 (UNI) In a bid to attract Indian tourists and businessmen in good numbers, Malaysia has recently introduced one-year multiple-entry visas for them, Malaysian Consul General Roli Ismail said today.

Talking to newspersons here in connection with the MAHSA College of Medical and Allies Health Sciences, Malaysia, inviting applications from Indian students for the academic year 2006-07, Mr Ismail said the country had seen a steadily increasing flow of Indian tourists in recent years.

He said the plush new buildings of downtown Kuala Lumpur and its beautiful beaches were also proving to be a major attraction for Southern Indian filmmakers to shoot 'song and dance sequences'.

To step up its relations with India, especially in the economic areas and also to promote friendly ties between the people of two countries, Malaysia had announced a one-year multiple entry visas for Indian tourists.

While there was no proposal yet for 'visa on arrival' for Indians visiting Malaysia, those holding visas for travel to Singapore or Thailand could avail the visa on arrival facility, he said.

Malaysia was also looking at Indian investment in the IT sector and already several medium-sized IT companies, set up by the Indians, were running in Malaysia, he said.

Dr Mohamed Haniffa, Managing Director of the MAHSA College said the college was wholly owned by the Malaysian Allied Health Sciences Academy.

The institute, which offers nursing and allied medical courses, had an academic partnership with five leading universities from the UK and Australia. Students, who join these courses were eligible to work in the US, UK, Australia and the Middle East.

Starting from this year, the college was making a conscious effort to attract more Indian students and similar presentations would be held in other Indian cities in the coming days, he added.
