DUISBURG, Germany, June 18 (Reuters) Italy midfielder Simone Perrotta is doubtful for Thursday's group E game against the Czech Republic due to a leg injury, the team's doctor said today.

Perrotta limped through the latter stages of yesterday's 1-1 draw with the United States after picking up a leg injury in a challenge with US defender Carlos Bocanegra. He could not go off because Italy had used all three substitutes.

''He suffered a heavy blow to his upper right leg. He may be able to recover but we will have to wait for further tests, said Italy team doctor Enrico Castellacci.

Should Perrotta not make it, Italy coach Marcello Lippi will be forced to rejuggle his midfield given he will also be without Daniele De Rossi who will be suspended following his red card yesterday.

Forward Alberto Gilardino, who scored against the Americans, picked up an ankle injury in the game and will also be looked at closely in the coming days, said Castellacci.

Midfielder Gennaro Gattuso returned from injury as a substitute against the Americans and could be in line for a starting place against the Czechs, along with Simone Barone and Mauro Camoranesi.

Italy go into their final game leading the group with four points -- one more than Ghana and the Czechs and three ahead of the United States.
