Governor R S Gavai quits RPI

Nagpur, June 18 (UNI) Designated Bihar Governor R S Gavai has resigned as president of the Republican Party of India (RPI) and appointed MLA from Karnataka S Rajendran as his successor.

Announcing Mr Rajendran's name at a conference here today, Mr Gavai also announced the names of the Party's office-bearers in the National executive Committee and National General council.

The office bearers include six vice-presidents and four general secretarys. The list of 15-member body of the party giving representation to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh was sent to the Chief Election Commission in New Delhi.

The office-bearers include A G Shinde from Maharashatra, Shivramji Mogha from karnataka, Doman Singh Nagpur from Madhya pradesh (MP), Dr A Seppan from Chennai, Mohanlal Gautam from Delhi and Sukhdev Singh Pandhi from Faridkot in Punjab.

General scretaries Sadanand Fulzele from Nagpur, M G Dhiware from Dhule, Rajendra Gavai from Mumbai (all in Maharashtra) and R S Diwakar from Patna. D R Zalte from Jalgaon in Maharashtra is treasurer and Mr Arjunsingh Jatta from Delhi, R C Maurya from Dalhi and Surender Kumar Siddhu from Agra in Uttar Pradesh are the secretaries.

Mr Gavai is leaving for Delhi tonight and is likely to take oath of office asBihar governor earlier on Thursday or Friday.

Earlier Mr Gavai, who is also president of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, was felicitated by a large number of his supporters at Diksha Bhoomi here. He catagorically declared he would not quit the post of Smarak Samiti as it does not came under the office-of -profit.

He also said he would remain as president of the Dhamma Chakra Pravarten Golden jubiliee celebration committee to celebrate the 50 years of embracing Buddhism at Diksha Bhoomi where Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism alongwith lakhs of his followers in 1956.
