Electronic ticket vending machine in Chennai railway station

Chennai, June 18 (UNI) For the first time in the country, an electronic ticket vending machine has been installed at the Chennai Central Suburban Railway Station attracting commuters.

Tricom Technologies Senior Manager S K Ashok, whose company had installed the equipment, said the machine cost Rs 2 lakh.

More machines will be installed at Egmore, Beach, Tambaram and other suburban stations in Chennai shortly, he said yesterday.

He said the machine was currently on trial and was donated by the Syndicate Bank and the Indian Overseas Bank.

Ashok said the machine would help commuters avoid long queues, as it will be able to deliver four to six tickets a minute.

The passengers can avail the service from the machine using three languages -- Tamil, English and Hindi.

The sensors in the machine would help in easy caluculation of balance amount and reject any foreign objects inserted into the slot.
