CPI(M) contesting Local Body polls as policy: Raghavulu

Hyderabad, June 18 (UNI) State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) B V Raghavulu today said his party was contesting the Local Body elections in Andhra Pradesh as per the party policy.

Addressing the party workers at the party office here, he said his party extended its support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre without expecting any portfolio.

He claimed that the party rejected the Prime Minister's post in 1996.

Mr Raghavulu also detailed the decisions taken at the recently concluded Central Committee meeting here on the ensuing elections.

He alleged that the Congress party's attitude towards CPI(M) was responsible for the present situation on seat adjustments.

He said the CPI(M) had made seat adjustments with the Telugu Desam Party(TDP), which extended support to them.

The CPI(M) leader said the Local Body elections would not decide the future of the State and Central Government.

The CPI(M) had been contesting the elections to boost the image of the party in the State, he added.
