BHU to lure tourists with Ayurveda

Varanasi, June 18: To lure tourists from across the globe to this ancient city, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here has embarked on a project of Ayurvedic Medical Tourism.

Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) in collaboration with UP tourism department will shortly introduce a unique concept of Ayurvedic Medical Tourism by offering healing packages to treat variegated disorders through a mix of ayurveda, yoga and meditation.

Dean of Faculty of Ayurveda, Manjari Dwivedi said UP government has sanctioned a fund of Rs 3.5 crore for setting up an advanced centre of Ayurveda combined with Yoga and Meditation on the BHU campus.

''We will offer Ayurvedic health packages ranging from a week to several months depending on the type of ailments. People suffering from chronic diseases will be treated at this centre. It would not only help people get rid of diseases in holistic way, but also help in generating additional income to the Faculty,'' she said.

Ms Dwivedi said the proposed centre for Ayurveda-Yoga-Meditation would house necessary components including 'Panch Karma' and meditation to cure all chronic diseases.

Besides, it would also help in removing misconception about Ayurvedic treatment, she informed, adding it will be instrumental in fostering the concept of Ayurvedic Medical Tourism.
