Anna varsity can be made an affiliate:former VC

Chennai, June 18 (UNI) Dr Ilango, former Vice Chancellor of Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore has suggested that Anna University here could be made an affiliate with five campuses spread across the state, with separate Vice Chancellors for each campus and separate administrative set up following speculation that it would be converted back into seperate university.

About 50 engineering colleges could be affiliated to each campus, he said delivering his convocation address at the second graduation day of the Valliammai Engineering College here last night.

Dr Ilango also suggested that all the five campuses must bear a common name of Anna University. ''It is not advisable to combine engineering colleges with arts and science colleges as in the past.

The culture, tradition and opportunities vary widely between both the streams,'' he said.

He cited the example of University of California, which has ten campuses spread across US.

Mr T R Pachamuthu, Chairman, SRM group of institutions in his address said they had signed 19 MOUs so far with various foreign universities for providing better and job oriented dual degrees to the needy and eligible students.

He said they would sign another MOU with University of South Australia in Adelaide for offering a three year dual degree for training as commercial pilots and cabin crews, by establishing a flying school here, shortly.
