Kannur (Kerala), June 17 (UNI) Congress Working Committe member A K Antony launched the Kannur edition of 'Veekshanam' Daily, the organ of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, by presenting the first copy to noted sculptor M V Devan at a function here today.

This is the fourth edition of the Malayalam newspaper, the other editions being from Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Antony said 'Veekshanam' was not only the mouthpiece of the Congress but also the mouthpiece of the people of Kerala.

Alleging that the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the state was intolerant to democratic agitations, he said Youth Congress workers were mercilessly beaten up by CPI(M) activists for waving black flag against a minister in Kozhikode last week.

Former journalists in north Malabar M Raghavan, P Gopi, K Koya, K P R Krishnan, P Bhaskaran, N Abdul Rahman, T Raghavan and V Govindan were honoured at the function.

PCC President and 'Veekshanam' Chairman Ramesh Chennithala presided over the meeting. Managing Director Benny Behanan, PCC Vice Presidents Mullapally Ramachandran and P P George and Mr K Sudhakaran, MLA, also spoke.
