Two militants among four killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 17 (UNI) Four people, including two militants, were killed in the Kashmir valley overnight, an official spokesman said.

Security forces and police, on a tip off, cordoned off village Sagipora under Sopore police station in the North Kashmir district of Baramulla late last night to nab the militants hiding there.

However, when the security forces were about to storm a particular house, the militants hiding inside, opened fire and also hurled hand grenades.

The Security forces retaliated and in the night-long operation two militants were killed.

The house from where the militants were firing on security forces was also damaged in the encounter. However, a resident alleged that security forces fired mortars to blast the house.

Two AK rifles, eight magazines and two UBGLs were recovered from the slain militants.

The spokesman said unidentified militants shot at and critically wounded a shop owner Bahasrat Ahmad Sheikh at Chenkipora, Sopore late last night. He was admitted to hospital in Srinagar where he died early this morning.

Militants also shot dead one Ghulam Ahmad Hurra alias Gamgeen a resident of Poshwari Naidkhai Hajan under Sumbal Police station today.
