Two car bombs kill at least 11 in Iraq: Police

Baghdad, June 17: Two car bombs killed at least 11 people and wounded several others today in attacks in Baghdad and just south of the capital, police sources said.

A car bomb targeting an Iraqi army checkpoint killed seven people and wounded 15 in a small town south of Baghdad today, they said.

The attack took place at the entrance of the town of Mahmudiya, 30 km south of the capital. It was not immediately clear whether the dead were soldiers or civilians or both.

The town lies in a predominantly Sunni Arab area known as the ''triangle of death'' because of frequent insurgent attacks on Iraqi and US-led forces.

Earlier, a car bomb targeting Iraqi forces in Baghdad killed four people -- three civilians and an Iraqi soldier -- and wounded 11, police sources said.
