State-of-art channels content monitoring cell soon

New Delhi, June 17: A State-of-the-art cell of the Electronic Media Monitoring Committee(EEMC) set up to keep watch on the contents of private television channels would start functioning soon.

The cell will be equipped with ultra-modern computers and other gadgets to making it possible to log on to 100 channels at a time and do recordings.

Funds for setting up the cell have been allocated and the cell is likely to be ready within a few months, an Information and Broadcasting Ministry official told UNI.

About 50 technicians and engineers will man the cell for 24 hours, he said.

The monitoring committee was set up by the government after the number of satellite private TV channels multiplied and complaints about violation of the Programme Code and Advertising Code started pouring in.

The committee, either suo motu or on receipt of complaint, examines cases of violation of the Code prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also directed all state and Union Territories to constitute monitoring committees at the state and district levels to monitor private satellite TV channels and local cable channels.
