Special CID team to leave for Bangkok

Hyderabad, Jun 17 (UNI) A special CID team, headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police C V Anand, will leave for Bangkok on June 20 to bring Krushi Bank Chief Kosaraju Venkateswara Rao to India in connection with a case of fraud.

According to an official release, a case was registered at Mahankali Police Station against Kosaraju Venkateswara Rao and others for cheating over 8,000 depositors and swindling Rs 32 crore.

The CID sleuths had arrested the remaining 22 accused in the case.

A chargesheet was filed against the accused and property worth over Rs 19 crore attached.

It also auctioned the attached property and got Rs 10.6 crore which was distributed among the depositors.

The police had made all efforts to trace the prime accused who fled the country along with his family in 2001.

The Interpol Wing of CID swung into action and took all steps required to bring back the fugitive in liaison with the CBI, Ministry of External Affiars and the Indian Embassy at Bangkok.

The CID got the extradition order in favour of India on April 26, this year. In pursuance of the order, the Thai police agreed to hand over the fugitive.

For the first time, the State's CID Department was involved in getting a fugitive extradited, it added.
