Sonia non-committal on Rahul's role in Congress

Written by: Staff

Gurubakshganj, UP, June 17 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today avoided a direct comment when asked if her son Rahul would be given any responsibility in the party set-up.

"Rahul is sitting in the car, go and ask him," she said when a reporter asked her if her son would be entrusted with any responsibility to strengthen the party in Uttar Pradesh, ahead of the state assembly poll next year.

Her comment only added to the speculation that Rahul might soon be given a key role in the Congress organisation with the party's rank and file clamouring for his induction to galvanise it in the northern states.

Rahul recently led his mother's campaign in the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha byelection, which she won by an unprecedented margin. She had earlier resigned her Lok Sabha membership following the office of profit controversy.
