New Delhi, June 17 (UNI) A delegation of the North East Student Organisation today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged special status for the region.

The delegation, led by NESO Chairman Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya apprised Dr Singh of the present situation in the region.

Later talking to newspersons, Dr Bhattacharya said they have submitted a ten-page memorandum to the Prime Minister, demanding among others, scraping of the 1964 Foreigner Tribunal which was recently amended and setting up of an unemployed youth commission for the region.

The delegation also demanded the Assam Accord be implemented within a stipulated time-frame.

He said they also demanded a special economic package for speedy economic growth.

Dr Bhattacharya said Dr Singh has assured them about a special economic package for the NER.

The delegation comprised members of all student organisations of the region.
