Quota for women teachers in Bengal likely : Bhattacharjee

Kolkata, Jun 17 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said his Government was likely to introduce quota for women for appointment as teachers in the Panchayat-run primary schools.

Speaking at a felicitation, accorded to him and women legislators by Paschimbanga Ganatantrik Mahila Samity, a frontal wing of the CPI(M), the Chief Minister said the Government would soon increase the number of posts for teachers in these schools and ensure more recruitment of women candidates.

Stressing that self-help groups would be strengthened to cope with the unemployment problem, Mr.Bhattacharjee said he had asked banks to disburse adequate loans for this purpose.

It was with this view that for the first time in the country, the Left Front Government had created a separate Ministry for self help and self employment, he said.
