Once hub of militants, Kupwara on path of development
Srinagar, Jun 17 (UNI) Once the hub of militants, the frontier district of Kupwara is on a path of overall development with milk and egg production touching all time high .
An official spokesman said here today that with the concerted efforts of Animal Husbandry department the annual milk production has reached 43 metric tonnes while the egg production has touched 22 lakh.
He said 14,536 cattle were covered under artificial insemination programme while 1.4 lakh cattle were vaccinated and 2,58,190 poultry birds were treated for various contagious and non-cantagious diseases.
About 1.50 lakh cattle were treated for various diseases while for 1,41,309 cases medicines for various contagious and non-contagious diseases were provided.
He said 45 private poultry units were established under poultry development programme besides 440 small poultry units which are already functional in the district.
The official said under tribal sub-plan 66 poultry units were established in the district while 5 more units are already functional.
