Mukherjee faces agitation at ISI

Kolkata, Jun 17(UNI) An abrupt demonstration by ISI employees greeted Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee when he visited the institute here today.

Shouting slogans, a section of employees, under the banner of ISI Workers' Organisation, staged the demonstration demanding, among other things, compassionate appointment for the kin of employees.

Mr Mukherjee came to the institute to participate in a meeting as Chairman of the ISI Council.

However, guarding the Defence Minister closely, security personnel made his way inside the building for the scheduled meeting without much trouble.

The workers' organisation claimed that they had submitted a memorandum of long-pending demands to Mr Mukherjee.

Police said the demonstrators dispersed after the Minister was taken inside the building and there was no further untoward incident.

They said no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
