JK: Militants responsible for tourists attack arrested

Srinagar, June 17: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested seven militants responsible for grenade attacks on tourists, killing of nine Nepali labourers and triggering car and other blasts in the valley.

Police also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anyone who provides information about Sajjad alias Tahir, the main brain behind such attacks.

Director General of Police Gopal Sharma addressing a press conference said after recent attacks by militants some special teams were formed to nab the militants responsible for such acts.

Working on many clues provided by locals, police raided several places in Srinagar and other places, he said.

It was only after hard-work that police finally arrested seven militants who were responsible for the militant acts.

Mr Sharma said the militants were responsible for four grenade attacks on tourists at Zakura, Soura and Dalgate in which six tourists--four from Gujrat, one each from Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal--were killed and more than twenty others were injured in April and May months.

He said the militants were also responsible for killing of nine Nepali labourers in south Kashmir recently.

He said during the interrogation the militants have confessed their involvement in the crime.

The militants were also responsible for triggering car bomb blasts in the valley, particularly on the national highway, he said.

During the press conference a film was screened before the media persons in which militants were seen fitting improvised explosive Devices (IED's) in the car.
