Bhubaneswar, June 17 (UNI) The ruling BJD-BJP in Orissa today announced to hold demonstrations across the state on June 19 to voice their protest against the rise in petrol, diesel and essential commodities.

BJP MP Dharmendra Pradhan and BJD General Secretary Jangeswar Babu at a joint press conference, said the demonstrations would be held before the district collectorate offices in all the 30 districts.

This apart, the two coalition partners also decided to organise protest demonstrations at 39 cities in the state for two hours.

Mr Pradhan and Babu said they would apprise the people of the state through a token demonstration of the anti-people policy adopted by the UPA government through increasing the prices of petrol and diesel for seven times during its two year tenure.

They alleged that the Centre instead of reducing the excise duty on petroleum products, had been forcing the state to slash the sales tax on petrol and diesel and described the decision of the Congress ruled states to reduces sales tax on petrol and diesel as a ''political gimmick''.

The BJD-BJP leaders criticised the Left parties for adopting a double standard in their approach towards the UPA government and asked them to oppose the UPA both inside and outside Parliament if they were really concerned for the people and wholeheartedly opposed the hike in the prices of fuel.
