Foreign currency worth Rs 9 lakh, foreign liquor seized

Kochi, June 17 (UNI) Customs officials seized undeclared foreign currency worth Rs nine lakh besides 33 bottles and 30 cartons of foreign liquor and cigarettes respectively from a ship here.

Customs Commissioner (Preventive) P A Perumal said today the seizure was made on June 14 from the ship M T Rising Om, which had arrived here from Singapore.

The crew members claimed they did not declare the goods at Cochin Port as they were ''afraid of pirates''.

The Customs imposed a redemption fine and penalty of Rs 50,000 on them.
