Farmers' rally opposes Reliance entry in agricultural sector

Moga, Jun 17 (UNI) A farmers' rally today strongly opposed the entry of Reliance in the agricultural sector in Punjab and criticised the state government's move to acquire agricultural land for multinational companies.

The rally was organised by the SAD 1920 and addressed by its president Ravinder Singh and his party colleague Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, Lok Bhalai Party chief Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, All India Jan Morch president Raj Babbar and Punjab Kisan Manch president Kulbir Singh Kularia among others.

They also opposed the UPA government's move to import wheat from Australia and other countries and demanded higher remunerative prices of foodgrains to the farmers, immediate introduction of cop insurance and crop loans at the interest rate of four per cent.

At a press conference later, these leaders opposed the hike in petrol and diesel prices saying it would adversely affect the agriculture sector, transport sector and even the industry and demanded the hike be withdrawn. centre to have a clear cut policy to save the agriculture sector.

To a question Mr Raj Babbar said he was confident that more political parties would be joining his Morcha on the call given by former Prime Minister VP Singh for safeguarding the interests of the farming community in the country.
