Cricket-Sri Lanka beat England in first one-dayer

LONDON, June 17 (Reuters) Sri Lanka beat England by 20 runs in the first one-day international at Lord's today after pacemen Dilhara Fernando and Lasith Malinga each claimed three wickets.

England, requiring 258 to win after Upul Tharanga's 120 took Sri Lanka to 257-9, rarely threatened once they slumped to 66-4 and ended on 237-9.

Fernando (three for 51) and Malinga (three for 26) affected the main damage in England's innings but it was Tharanga's third one-day international century that allowed his team to set a competitive total.

The next game in the five-match series is on Tuesday. The teams drew the test series 1-1.
