Committee formed to draft interim statute before election in Nepal

Kathmandu, June 17 (UNI) An interim statute draft committee has been formed under the convenorship of former Supreme Court justice Laxman Aryal to draft an interim statute before the constituent assembly election.

The committee was formed in accordance with the agreement reached between the government and the Maoists during the talks held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's residence yesterday.

Mr Aryal was the member of the constitution draft committee of the 1990 constitution of Nepal.

The other members of the committee are president of Nepal Bar Association Shambhu Thapa, senior lawyer Harihar Dahal, former attorney general Mahadev Yadav, senior lawyer Sindhu Nath Pyakurel, and Khimlal Devkota.

The committee will presents its draft to the talks team within 15 days.

The government and the Maoists have also agreed to form an interim government including the Maoists before the constituent assembly election to write a new constitution.

Maoists chairman Prachanda held talks with the Prime Minister at his residence yesterday before holding talks with the senior leaders of the seven parties alliance.
