Allow reconstruction of demolished buildings: BJP
New Delhi, June 17 (UNI) The Government should allow reconstruction of buildings razed in the capital during the MCD's demolition drive against illegal constructions, the Delhi unit of the BJP said today.
Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar Nigam had violated the privilege of Union Cabinet by stating before the MCD Standing Committee that the demolished structures could not be reconstructed, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan claimed in a statement here.
He also demanded that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit as well as Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy ensure implementation of their promise that people will get bank loans to reconstruct their demolished properties on implementation of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act 2006.
''More than 1,000 properties were demolished and over 14,000 properties sealed during the drive. MCD has itself admitted that the houses of a number of innocent people were demolished. Will those people also not be allowed to reconstruct their houses and why are they not being given compensation so far,'' he asked.
Ms Dikshit, Mr Reddy and Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken should make their stand clear on the issue, he added.
