AIR launches new FM channel
Vijayawada, June 17 (UNI) The All India Radio (AIR) Vijayawada today launched a new FM channel rainbow 'Krishnaveni' which focuses on youth and provides information on weather and local issues.
The new FM channel, 16th in the country available on 102.2 mega hertz will air variety and quality entertainment programmes.
Inaugurating the new FM channel here, Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K S Sharma said the channel was confined only upto 15 km within Vijayawada city limits.
He said the Vijayawada air station would be upgraded to 10 kws station.
He said the Centre had granted permission to two private radio channels for broadcasting in Vijayawada.
Mr Sharma said there were 10,000 FM radio stations in United States and added that about 300 FM private channels were likely to come up in the country in the near future.
The Direct to Home (DTH) service was offering air programmes in 12 languages and eight more languages will be added soon, he said.
