6 killed, 50 hurt in AP road mishaps
Hyderabad, JunE 17 (UNI) Six people were killed and 50 injured in three road accidents in Andhra Pradesh today.
In Visakhapatnam District, three Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers were killed on the spot and 20 injured when the lorry in which they were travelling lost control and dashed into a tree near Mammidipalem Village this evening.
Police said the mishap occured when the workers and their followers were returning to the village after filing nomination papers in Anakapalli for MPTC election.
The injured were shifted to King George Hospital.
In Karimnagar District, 30 people were injured, two of them seriously when two tractors carrying supporters of the Congress and TDP candidates collided at Kothakonda Village.
Those seriously injured were admitted to the Warangal MGM Hospital while the rest were admitted to a private hospital in Mulkanur.
Today being the last day for filing of nominations, workers of the Congress and TDP started in two tractors to be present for the filing of nominations by their leaders from Katkur Village in Bhimadevarapalli Mandal.
The mishap occurred when the tractors crossed Kothakonda Village when the driver of the tractor carrying Congress workers tried to overtake the one carrying TDP workers.
In Prakasam District, three persons, including a woman were killed and two injured in a accident on National Highway 5, near Jagarlamodivanipalem Village today.
According to police, the a vehicle in which five people were proceeding to Puthur Village of Chittoor District from Kovvur in West Godavari for medical treatment collided with a stationary tractor.
The deceased were identified as Md Ismail(40), Sadar Begum(60) and Jilani(35).
The injured, including the car driver, were shifted to Ongole Government Hospital.
