50-year-old man arrested for circulating fake notes in Nagpur

Nagpur, June 17 (UNI) A 50-year-old man hailing from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh has been arrested for circulating fake currency in the market in the city here.

According to police, one Ramkishore Nawalsingh Thakur yesterday went to a jewellery shop in Juna Sbhedari layout locality and purchased a gold chain by giving ten notes of Rs 500 and six notes of Rs 50 totalling Rs 5,300 to the shop owner who raised doubts about the authenticity of the notes and informed the Sakkardara police.

The police who arrived at the shop, got the notes verified at a nearby bank and found it to be fake. So they took Thakur to the police station. On searching him, they found 13 notes of Rs 500 each from him.

He was immediately arrested, police said.

Earlier one youth was arrested in Akola and another person in Vidarbha for possessing similar fake currencies. With the arrest of these persons, the police claim that the inter-state gang might be operating in other districts in Vidarbha.
