We have to support UPA govt out of compulsion, not love: C M
Kolkata, Jun 16 (UNI) The Left parties were going through a tough test by supporting the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and fighting its policies, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said.
" We are facing a tough test. We have fundamental differences with the Congress. We have to support it out of compulsion and not love," he said while addressing a rally of the Democratic Youth Federation (DYFI) at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here.
Observing that the Congress would never be able to change its "class character", the Chief Minister said the left parties were being compelled to extend outside support to the coalition Government to keep the BJP, "the number one enemy".
He warned that the RSS, the guiding force of the BJP, was not a spent force and the country still faced a threat from it.
Criticising the UPA Government for 'bowing' to the dictates of the US, Mr Bhattacharjee said an effort was being made to make the country a junior partner of America by participating in joint military exercises, but the Left parties would not allow that.
" Our country is becoming a junior partner of the US by toeing its line in many aspects, including the joint military exercise. But we shall never allow it," he said.
