Enrichment offer part of Iran proposals: Russia
Moscow, June 16: Russia's offer to create a joint venture with Iran to enrich uranium on Russian territory is part of a six-power package of proposals made to Iran, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today, local media reported.
''This proposal remains on the negotiating table. It is a part of the package which was agreed by the six countries. Iran is continuing to look at this package,'' Lavrov said in the Kazakh city of Almaty, RIA news agency reported.
Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States on June 1 agreed a package of incentives and penalties aimed at persuading Iran to curtail its nuclear programme.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today said the proposals were a positive step but gave no sign on when Tehran would give its response.
Russia made a proposal late last year on joint enrichment in Russia, but received mixed signals from Tehran. Moscow says the plan would provide Iran with nuclear fuel but not the high-grade material that could be used to make a bomb.
