Rs 11.9 cr sanctioned for Subramanya road project

Mangalore, June 16 (UNI) Karnataka Fisheries and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister B Nagaraja Shetty today said Rs 11.9 crore had been sanctioned for Subramanya road project and it would be taken up after the monsoons.

Addressing a press conference here, he asserted that there was no dearth of fund for repairing damaged roads in the district. Based on the instructions given by him to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PWD, engineering division of zilla panchayat and Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to fill up all potholes in the district within 72 hours, all officials, except NHAI, had acted swiftly and all roads would be made motorable within a week.

On the row between MCC Commissioner P Chandrappa and Mayor K Ashraf over the eviction drive against petty shops on footpaths, he clarified that he had only urged the Commissioner to evict those petty shops which had encroached upon footpaths in the best interests of the people.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner had lodged a complant with the Superintendent of Police yesterday against the Mayor for allegedly threatening to stop the eviction drive or face the consequences.

Referring to the complaint, Mr Shetty said the law would take its own course and did not want to lodge any complaint on the issue.

However, Mr Yogesh Bhat, the BJP MLA from Mangalore, charged the Mayor with behaving in an ''uncivilised and irresponsible manner.'' UNI MA GD TS1617
