Rain and snow continue in HP

Shimla, June 16 (UNI) Higher altitude areas of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnuar districts of Himachal Pradesh experienced snowfall for the second day today, while isolated showers lashed the lower areas, plummeting maximum and minimum temperatures in the state during the last 24 hrs.

The 13050-foot high Rohtang Pass in Lahaul and Saach Pass in Chamba district experienced light snowfall for the second day today.

Pangi sub division of the district continued to remain cut off from the rest of the state due to the closure of the Saach Pass after receiving snowfall for the fourth day today, while the higher reaches of Pangi and Bharmaour areas of the district received a spell of fresh snowfall during the last 24 hrs.

Higher reaches of Kinnuar were also experiencing snow, lowering the water discharge in the Satluj River to 380 cumecs only with the temperatures in the district plummeting to 20 degrees from a high of 27 degrees last week.

A SJVNL official, on condition of anonymity, said the water discharge in the river had decreased from 1,000 cumecs to 380 cumecs due to the sudden drop in temperatures in the upper parts of the district.

The famous tourists resort of Manali in Kullu district of the state also reported intermittent rainfall and Bhuntar in the district recorded nine mm of rain Shimla and its adjoining areas were also lashed by intermittent rainfall with the state capital recording 32.1 mm of rain, while Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded 11.8 mm of rain during the last 24 hrs.

The maximum and minimum temperatures of the state capital further dropped to 20.1 and 13 degrees from 22.2 and 14.6 degrees recorded yesterday.

The met office has predicted rain and thundershowers at many places of the state during the next 24 hrs.
