Maoist killed in encounter

Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, June 16 (UNI) A state committee member of the banned CPI (Maoist) was killed in a police encounter in Pullalacheruvu Mandal in Prakasam district today.

District Superintendent of Police N Balasubramaniam said 46-year-old Matta Ravi Kumar alias Sridhar was killed on the spot, but two others, who received injuries in the encounter, had escaped.

Mr Balasubramanian said the police parties were fired upon by the Naxals when they were asked to surrender. Kumar was killed in retaliatory firing, he added.
