Kolkata gears up for Odeon

Kolkata, Jun 16 (UNI) The theatre loving people of the city could well quench their thirst for 10 days with a host of new plays coming their way thanks to the sixth edition of 'Odeon Theatre Festival'.

Sridhar Rao, CEO of Hutch Telecom East Limited, the presenter of the festival, while addressing a meet here today said 'since Kolkata and theatre are synonymous, Hutch wants to give back this city something beyond business. Odeon is a part of our ongoing initiative to promote Kolkata's cultural heritage'.

Among other eminent personalities present on the ocassion were Sohag Sen-theatre consultant for the Odeon Theatre Festival, Raja Bhattacharya- director, Swapan Biswas- director, Kaushik Sen- actor&director, Gargi Roy Chowdhury- actress.

Commencing on June 23, the festival will continue for 10 days showcasing some rare art forms such as natoker gaan, puppet show, mime, mimicry, street theatre, tribal (santhal) musical concert, besides hosting a seminar, two plays in English and Hindi - 'C for Clown' by Rajat Kapoor and 'Ek Kadam Agay' by Makrand Deshpande the leading Indian playwrights along with the premiere of four Bengali plays.

Sohag Sen said, "Odeon hosts non-revival plays which has a completely new script which the people of Kolkata has never seen.

This year for the first time Odeon will be taken to the districts of Bengal to premier two Bengali plays." UNI XC BA RN1605
