KANK music launched, Karan says plot is intense

ubai, June 16 (UNI) Filmmaker Karan Johar says his latest multi-starrer ''Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'' (KANK) is based on the ''delicate and controversial topic of extra marital affairs.'' Speaking to reporters at the music launch of the film here, Karan said the film discusses and evaluates relationships. ''My earlier film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was a celebration of relationships. The intensity in KANK is deeper,''he added.

Karan said all narative structures in his movies are from personal observations. ''Extra marital affairs are rampant in the society. But the subject is handled emotionally and in a dignified manner. Even though there may have been many films earlier dealing with the subject of extra-marital relationships, I have dealt with the subject in my way,'' he added.

Refusing to speak on the story of KANK, he said the film was about broken marriages. On Abhishek Bachchan, Karan says Bachchan junior plays himself - a child-man.

When asked about how he handled his huge starcast amid rumours about rivalry between Bachchans and Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherji and Preity Zinta, Karan said such rumours were baseless and ridiculous. I work with actors with whom I share a comfort level with. They are like family to me.

Speaking on the occasion, Amitabh Bachchan said his association with Dharma productions began with ''Dostana'' many years ago. He said Karan had efficiently handled the production for the first time after the demise of his father Yash Johar. ''He has lived up to the expectations of his father and all of us. Karan has taken his father's work several steps ahead'', he added.

Lyricist Javed Akhtar said the story of the film could disturb certain people's morality and it was difficult for him and music composer trio of Shankar-Ehsaan Loy to create music which matches the fusion that was required.

The film's music was released in London on June 12 where Shah Rukh Khan was present. The film releases on August 11.
