Israeli forces kill 3 Palestinians on Gaza border

GAZA, June 16: Israeli forces today killed three Palestinian militants who approached the Israel-Gaza border, Palestinian security officials said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman in Tel Aviv said troops spotted the three men planting explosives near the Israeli-built border fence along the frontier with the central Gaza Strip.

''They were attacked, also from the air, and we saw they were hit,'' the spokeswoman said about the night-time encounter.

Palestinian security officials confirmed the death of the three men, who they identified as militants. It was not immediately clear what armed group they belonged to.

There have been numerous such incidents along the fence since Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip last year.
