Govt. holds talks with managements of self-financing colleges

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 16 (UNI) The Kerala Self-financing Medical College Managements' Association today said it was ready to fill 50 per cent seats from the rank list of the common entrance test if the government provided financial assistance to run the institutions without loss.

However, the Association urged the government, during a meeting with the Education Minister M A Baby, to permit them to conduct a separate entrance test for admission to the remaining 50 per cent seats in the management quota.

The Self-financing Engineering College Management Association had earlier agreed that it was ready to follow the 2001 fee structure brought by the LDF government. If the government agreed to accept certain conditions in the fee structure put forward by the management, the whole admission would be made from the government rank list.

After the meeting, Mr Baby told reporters that the government was trying to convince the Associations on certain issues before bringing in a new legislation.

The government proposes to introduce a bill governing the admission and fee structure in self-financing professional colleges in the State Assembly on June 22.
