Four detained for threatening self-immolation

Rajkot, June 16 (UNI) Four people were detained last night from Jasdan town in the district as they have threatened self-immolation over their long pending demand to fill up the vacant posts in the Jasdan Civil Hospital.

Police Inspector R D Ulva told UNI over phone from Jasdan today that Jabdabhai Virabhai, Rajeshbhai Bavabhai, Gabhru Pokharia and Pradip Hirpara were detained under IPCL 151.

Yesterday, Taluka Headquarter town had observed a bandh in protest against the staff crunch at the Jasdan Civil Hospital, the lone government hospital.

The bandh call was given by the 'Save Hospital Committee' and supported by trade and educational Institutions. The Committee is demanding to fill up the vacant posts, including that of a surgeon and gynaecologist on priority basis in the hospital.

Meanwhile, ten people went on a token hunger strike Mr Ulva said adding they were agitating over the issue since last four days.
