Ferozabad to be developed as 'Crystal City'

Lucknow, June 16: Ferozabad -- world famous for glass works and bangles -- is being developed as a 'Crystal City' to boost trade and tourism.

It is one of the several initiatives by the Uttar Pradesh tourism department to bring Ferozabad on the international tourist map.

A modern shopping centre will also be developed in Ferozabad to showcase glass artefacts, bangles and showpieces.

Similarly, restaurants, bookshops and hotels are also planned there to cater to the needs of backpackers.

A roadmap to this end is being finalised, work on which will commence soon thereafter, principal secretary and director general tourism Om Prakash said here today.

''We have sent a proposal to the Ferozabad district magistrate to make us 100 acres land available for the purpose,'' he informed.

Ferozabad is famous for glass and crystal items, which are not only in demand in India, but exported to several countries.

Since, the tourist hub of Agra is nearby, the state government wants to woo Indian and foreign tourists to visit the 'Suhag Nagari' of Ferozabad.

The operated tours between Agra and Ferozabad towns would also be synergised to harness the tourism potential.
