Elderly couple killed in freak mishap

Chennai, Jun 16 (UNI) An elderly couple fell to their death after a portion of the sun shade and balcony gave away at their house in MKB Nagar in North Chennai today.

Police said, Hari Ram (72) and his wife Padma (68) were standing on the sunshade on the first floor and chatting when the mishap occurred.

Initially, a portion of the sun shade collapsed and subsequently the entire balcony gave away.

Police rushed to the spot and rescued the other occupants of the house using a ladder as the stairway also collapsed.

The bodies were removed to the Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.
