Kolkata, Jun 16: Work came to a halt in 42 branches and one Administrative Office in Dena Bank in four Eastern states today following a strike pressing for various demands.

The strike was called in the offices in Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal demanding action against the officials responsible for bad advances, right to representation of the elected representatives of the union, regularisation of the Budlees and casual workers and promotion of stub-staff to clerical cadre.

The strike, called by All India Dena Banke Employees Coordination Committee, was backed by Bengal Provincial Bank Employees' Association, an unit of AIBEA.

In a statement, Co-ordination Committee President Kamal Bhattacharya said the employees would resort to further agitational programmes including dharna in front of the regional offices and another strike in future.
