Court rejects bail in smuggling case

Kochi, June 16 (UNI) The Ernakulam Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court today rejected bail for V Habeeb Rahman of Feroke, Kozhikode, arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intellegence (DRI) for allegedly smuggling medium density fibre boards through various Indian ports furnishing wrong declaration of value.

According to the DRI, the accused evaded customs duty to the tune of Rs 36 lakh through smulggling activity in April last. He was arrested in the case yesterday.

When the bail application of the accused came up for hearing,the prosecutor submitted that a major part of the investigation was yet to be conducted and no witnesses were interrogated.

Taking note of the submission, Magistrate P S Nizar Ahamed said the accused was not entitled for bail at the present stage.
